The history of the Kriaunos church dates back to the 16th century, when a wooden cruciform church was built near the Kriaunos Manor, around which a small church village developed. This original church featured five altars. The current folk-classicist-style church, built from fieldstones, was constructed between 1818 and 1829. Its construction was overseen by Mykolas Romeris, the owner of the Bagdoniškis and Kriaunos estates, Count Kristupas Plateris, and priests Ignotas Tarvydas and Juozas Šileika. Today, the church preserves three magnificent altars.

The bell tower of the Church of Divine Providence houses a bell considered the oldest in the Baltic States. Cast in the second half of the 13th century, it arrived in Kriaunos in the early 17th century. This historical treasure attracts visitors and stands as one of the region’s most significant sacred heritage landmarks.
