Standing near one of Nida's main streets, this bronze creation illustrates perhaps the most famous and romantic Lithuanian folk legend, "Jūratė and Kastytis." The sculpture depicts a love scene between two dramatically different worlds – the fisherman Kastytis embracing the mermaid Jūratė, who left her sea kingdom for her love of a simple man.
The sculpture was erected in 1984 at the request of the then "Jūratė" rest house and is placed in the inner courtyard of the rest house. The author of the sculpture is Eduardas Jonušas.
